Digital Asset Management
Service:
Objective
Curate the Digital Asset Management (DAM) system for National Parks England. Upload photography portfolios, tagging with relevant metadata to support communications stories across all UK’s protected landscapes.
Process
I began curating portfolios from 100s of images to 30-40, focussing on storytelling and the brief provided to select optimal images.
Images were then uploaded to the DAM, where they were tagged with metadata that will optimise search, for use in communications across the parks, trails and landscapes. Metadata involved keywords, describing what is seen in the image but also what stories it may tell (e.g accessibility, mindfulness, learning). Applying communications and storytelling skills to predict how images may be used and provide inspiration to users. Practical data was also included, such as photographer credit, location, and model information. Model information was included to allow for removal of data if requested, following GDPR protocol when uploading consent forms.
A degree of wildlife identification skills were required for photos that contained only flora or fauna.
WORK TO BE COMPLETED:
Within the DAM, I will be organising the uploaded images into collections. Creating collections based on the main stories that may be told; wildlife, access, young adults etc. Choosing the best 30-40 images from all uploads for each collection. This will streamline communications across National Parks England and any partners that may use the site.
Outcome
The aim of this project was the create a DAM system that streamlines communications across National Parks England/ UK, National Trails, National Landscapes and any partners.
The DAM not only allows for quick retrieval of quality imagery for storytelling, based on the extensive keyword system I implemented but also allows for story development, with keywords offering inspiration for stories that can be told with that image.
There is now a library of diverse imagery and accurate data, that has already provided use for email communications and website development, with more to come.
